Local Area Coordination is a very personal, human approach to supporting individuals and families to build resilience, relationships, contribution – a good life – and reduce demand for, and dependence on, services. It also nurtures more welcoming, inclusive and supportive communities and, crucially, creates the conditions for wider systems change.
In this report, Les Billingham (Head of Adult Social Care and Community Development – Thurrock Council) and Maureen McEleney (Housing Consultant and Interim Manager. Currently employed as Interim Assistant Director Housing and Growth – London Borough Waltham Forest) reflect on the urgent need for change, the range of outcomes for individuals, families, communities and services and the impact of Local Area Coordination as a driver for positive systems change.
